Definitions |
Defines the list of species listed in the Red Book The Kyrgyz Republic, the management of which is one of the forms of conservation of biological diversity, containing information on the most vulnerable species of animals and plants and practical recommendations for the stabilization or restoration of their numbers.
|
Concepts |
Rare, endangered or endangered species/subspecies of animals, plants and fungi are those that are threatened with extinction, the number of individuals encountered is insufficient to restore and self-preserve the population in natural conditions.
|
Rationale and interpretation |
The basis for compiling (availability of) lists of species/subspecies of animals, plants and fungi is the established need to take urgent measures for their protection and reproduction.
The indicator makes it possible to assess the state of biodiversity in terms of the number of endangered species and the relative effectiveness of responses taken at the national level, i.e. actions taken to preserve national and global biodiversity. Biological diversity is a prerequisite for the sustainable functioning of ecosystems.
The indicator characterizes the state of populations of representatives of fauna and flora belonging to species groups that are of crucial resource importance and play an important role in terms of biodiversity conservation. It also helps to reflect the balance of economic interests with the interests of biodiversity conservation.
|
Method of computation |
The proportion of endangered species in the total number of Red Book species
The method of calculating this form of representation of the indicator:
Proportion of species (%) = Total number of endangered species / Total number of Red Book species * 100
|
Comments and limitations |
The presence of financial constraints and a lack of specialists, leading to a possible listing in the Red Book In case of insufficient or unreliable information about their condition, as well as current changes in their condition, the identification of species/subspecies of animals, plants and fungi requires periodic review of the condition of species/subspecies of animals, plants and fungi in order to identify those in need of special protection measures.
|
Quality assurance |
Making decisions on species/subspecies in need of special protection measures and compiling lists of them for listing in the Red Book The assessment should be based on a full assessment of their condition and the dynamics of changes.
|
Data availability and gaps |
The availability of data for interested parties is ensured by the adopted Government decree No. 170 of the Kyrgyz Republic dated April 28, 2005 “On Approval of Lists of Rare and Endangered Species of Animals and Plants for Inclusion in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic (as amended by Government Decree KR dated July 25, 2009, No. 471), the printed edition of the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic.

It is a national indicator corresponding to global indicator 15.5.1.1. Red List Index.
|
References and documentation |
The indicator is formed according to the UNECE Guidelines “Environmental Indicators and Assessment Reports based on them”, and the methodology of the SDG indicators, based on available data and consultations.
|
Data sources |
The data is generated based on the lists of species/subspecies of animals, plants and fungi to be included in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic, approved by the decree of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic.
|
Data collection methods |
“The indicator is formed on the basis of the list of species in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic, approved by Resolution of the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic dated April 28, 2005 No. 170 “On Approval of lists of rare and endangered species of animals and plants for inclusion in the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic” (vredaktion PP KR dated July 25, 2009 No. 471).
In all sections of the Red Book of the Kyrgyz Republic (2007), the 2004 IUCN category system was used (with necessary modifications).
Since 1963, the IUCN has maintained an international list of threatened animal and plant species (Red Book).
The National Academy of Sciences of the Kyrgyz Republic also carries out accounting for certain types.
