Definitions

The total number of victims of intentional homicide divided by the population, expressed per 100,000 persons
Concepts

Intentional homicide is defined as the unlawful death inflicted upon a person with the intent to cause death or serious injury. (Source: International Classification of Crime for Statistical Purposes, ICCS 2015).
Rationale and interpretation

This indicator is used to assess the level of the most extreme forms of violence and the state of public safety. Monitoring intentional homicides is necessary to understand their causes and consequences, as well as to develop effective preventive measures and government programs aimed at reducing the level of violence.
Method of computation

The ratio of the number of deaths resulting from intentional homicide to the average annual resident population, based on the current estimate. It is calculated per 100,000 population.
Comments and limitations

The calculation of the indicator includes crimes initiated under Article 122 of the Criminal Code of the Kyrgyz Republic at the pre-trial stage.
Quality assurance

Data are regularly cross-checked with the information contained in the UIS “Unified Register of Crimes” in order to ensure their completeness, accuracy, and timeliness.
Data availability and gaps

Data are available annually начиная with 2015.
Disaggregation

Disaggregation is available by territory — republic, oblast, district — and by sex.
Comparability with international data/standards

The data are comparable with those of UNODC and IOM; however, discrepancies may occur due to differences in national recording practices.
