Definitions |
This methodology was developed in order to monitor the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in the Kyrgyz Republic, namely Goal 2 “Eliminating hunger, ensuring food security and improving nutrition and promoting sustainable agricultural development.”
|
Concepts |
The analysis of the incidence of anemia makes it possible to assess the effectiveness of preventive measures in relation to the incidence of anemia among the population of the republic as a whole and in the context of administrative territories. This indicator of morbidity is also used to assess the health of the population as a whole, social well-being, and the quality of medical and preventive services for the population. Analysis of the indicator makes it possible to assess the level of effectiveness of state policy in the field of maternal and child health in the republic, since the level of medical care for pregnant and maternity women determines the fate and health of future generations
|
Rationale and interpretation |
The number of patients diagnosed for the first time is the number of cases of diseases registered for the first time in the reporting year.
Anemia is a pathological condition characterized by a decrease in the level of hemoglobin in the blood and may be accompanied by a decrease in the quantitative content of red blood cells per unit volume.
Iron deficiency anemia is a pathological condition characterized by a decrease in the level of iron in the body, leading to a decrease in the concentration of red blood cells and hemoglobin in the blood.
Anemia of pregnant women develops as a result of insufficient intake of iron necessary for the development of the embryo, developing during pregnancy (mainly starting in the second or third trimester) due to insufficient satisfaction of the increased need of the mother and fetus for substances necessary for hematopoiesis.
The number of women who ended their pregnancies is women who ended their pregnancies by giving birth (on time or prematurely), who were under observation at the beginning of the year and were admitted under observation in the reporting year.

Method of computation |
“The calculation of the proportion of women with reported cases of anemia among women is based on data from annual official statistical reports.
The indicator is calculated as the ratio of the number of anemia patients diagnosed for the first time in their lives to the corresponding age of the average annual number and permanent population.
The incidence of anemia in the population is calculated using the formula:
where D is the percentage of detected cases of anemia registered during the reporting year;
FOR – the incidence of anemia
H is the average annual number of permanent residents; The proportion of pregnant women suffering from anemia to the number of women who have completed pregnancy is calculated based on data from annual official statistical reports.
Coverage is calculated by territory calculated using the formula:
where, D is the percentage of women suffering from anemia
A – women suffering from anemia
ZB – the number of pregnant women who have completed pregnancy
