The indicator determines the volume of fresh water that is lost during transportation between the point of its intake and the point of use and is expressed as the total volume of lost water and as a percentage of losses from the total gross volume of water withdrawn by the water supply industry. |
| Concepts |
Water losses during transportation to places of use are an indicator of the irrational use of limited natural resources, as well as the inefficiency of the water management system, including technical conditions affecting water supply systems, water prices and public awareness. |
| Rationale and interpretation |
This indicator is of great importance for the targeted provision of efficient water use and allows us to determine the effectiveness of response measures aimed at improving water management systems. |
| Method of computation |
The indicator is expressed as the total volume of lost water in million m3, as well as as a percentage of losses from the total gross volume of water withdrawn by the water supply industry. |

| Data collection methods |
The indicator is formed annually by the DVHM under the Ministry of Agriculture and Food of the Kyrgyz Republic, since 2019 by the GAVR under the RCC, and then presented to the NSC of the Kyrgyz Republic as “water losses during transportation,” where respondents are public or private organizations whose main functions are collecting, purifying and distributing water for domestic, industrial and other purposes. |
